I am sure everyone is ready for the weekend, I know I am. The weather has been wonderful in Austin. Not our typical February at all. The Bluebonnets are about 3 weeks early but they say that could mean they are out longer this year.
One of my favorite books for needlepoint stitches is called "Wonderful Stitches" by Diane M. Schultz. Unfortunately it is no longer available through you LNS but I highly recommend you go to her site and add it to you library. www.needlework.com.
With that said, I recently charted a stitch from her book and gave it to a student for the sand on her Beach Santa Stocking. I can't remember the artist but I will find out and let you know. None of the stitches have names so I named it "Earthquake". When doing this stitch work it in the steps set out. You can use a metallic for step one and then an over-dyed thread for step 2 and 3. Make the colors monochromatic so it flows nicely.
The Web Store has been updated with this weeks arrivals so be sure and go check it out.
The first canvas's on the page are from a Mixed Media Artist by the name of Terrell Powell who is from Austin. Patti Mann found his work at an art show in Kansas City and just had to put it on canvas and I think it is wonderful. Terrell popped into the store not too long ago and I came to find out that I had been admiring his bird totems at a gallery in Santa Fe for years. Go visit his Facebook page, if you get a chance and if you are in the Scottsdale area he is showing at The Celebration of Art.
Don't forgot if you are in the market for a stocking we are having a Stocking Trunk Show with 6 great designers.
Have a great weekend everyone! HAPPY STITCHING!
I almost forgot, The Meredith Collection has updated their web site and it is WONDERFUL. Be sure and go check out all the Charley Harper.
