I know many of you are wondering why I did not post while in Alaska. Well simple answer, no internet. I was able to get one post to Facebook and then that was it. So here is the update on the vacation.
I arrived to the lodge and was greeted by my guide Casey, who I have had 2 other years. There were some new faces but some old friends where there also.
I presented Jason with a needlepoint of the lodge sign and he immediately hung it under the Welcome sign outside the front door. (Yes the porch is well covered and they promise to bring it inside out of season)
The river was way down this year so we hiked to the upper part of the river to get to the fishing. It was beautiful and it felt so good to be outdoors. It was about a 1 1/2 mile hike over pebbly terrain. We were walking up the river bed that was now dry which was a very strange feeling considering we had always gone up it in a boat. Along the way we had to go through a Beaver Pond and were greeted with slapping tails from 2 very unhappy beaver.
For the next 6 days I fished until I could fish no more. I am so thankful to my trainer for kicking me into shape. I was able to keep up with Casey on the hikes and think I even managed to loose a couple of pounds. The photo album for the trip is on the navigation side of the blog.
This is a 50 foot tree that some very ambitious beaver is working on. The problem is that if it falls towards the river it will block the river completely.
I am going to have to come up with some new recipes for the fish this year. I am told that I have 40 lbs. of Coho Salmon coming this week. As I try new recipes, I will be sure and pass them on.
I did manage to do a little needlepointng on the trip. I will post that later. Until then...Tightlines and have a great day.
